Perfumes are gotten from alcohol, water, and the fragrance oil which is also called perfume. That word is derived from the Latin word 'Per + fumum', meaning 'through the smoke'. The main types are chypre, floral, and oriental. In English, it means through the smoke, in french it means 'very sincere'.  Other varieties include woody, spicy, musky, fruity and aquatic.

Eau de in french is '' water of'', by the name it is obvious that it contains more of water and less of fragrance oil. The Perfume Revolution.

Perfume first started in Egypt, it was used as part of their service for worship. Along with other methods like burning of incense, using balms and ointments.  Perfumes were also used for medical and cosmetic applications. Perfumes were also used in the ancient middle kingdoms for religious purposes.

From the time of the New Kingdom ( 1580-1085 BC), Egyptian women used perfumes such as creams and oils as toiletries. The taste for perfumes was widespread to the Roman Empire and the Arabic world. Christians were not to keen with it at first but in the twelfth century and due to international trade this decline of perfumes was reversed.
