For a long time I relaxed my hair, that was the norm so I did that. And relaxed hair is much easier to handle. And when I decided to go natural I had zero ideas of what to do or how to style my hair because of my short and natural. Then I saw this thing about protective styles.

That is a style every girl with natural hair is looking for. A style that is protected by transitioning of strands without you having to look weird. Whether you wear natural hair or permed hair, these are styles that you will like to implement to your routine.

What In The World Is A Protective Hairstyle?

Protective hairstyles serve as shelters and defenses to your hair, they prevent tangles, shredding, and breakages. Protective styles can be African treads hairstyles, box braids, or even cornrows and more. It all started in the countries in Africa. There are a lot of styles out but the purpose is the same: To make you look beautiful while protecting your hair. They protect your hair from the wind, heat styling, and more.

Take Caution While Styling Your Hair. (Protective Hairstyles)

It's still your duty to protect your hair from damage. If these styles where installed tightly, it will cause damages to your hair. So becare full of who makes your hair and how to your hair is made. Avoid pulling and too much pressure on your hair while making it. Don't avoid to complain if you notice the hair is too heavy, tight, or is being pulled harshly. This will do more harm than good to your hair.

Can Protective Styles Help Hair Grow?

N to the No. But we know that Taking good care of your hair helps it grow. So it depends solely on your DNA. But I would like to say, a lot of people often see an increase in length with styles that are like straight stands. That notwithstanding don't rely on hairstyles to grow your hair. It's not impossible but it's not dependable. Protective styles and treatments can help reduce breakages and this will help you achieve longer hair.

What The Need Or Purpose Of Protective Hairstyles.

Like I mentioned they are to protect your hair, This can be seen from the name itself. It protects the most vulnerable part of your hair, which is your ends from the wind, too much brushing and styling procedures, and more. In summary, it protects your hair from the unnecessary stressors of your environment.

The Lenght Duration Of Your Protective Hair Styles.

Depending on your choice of hair duo. If you install Faux locs or box braids a month or six weeks is the standard time. But some can manage it for up to twelve weeks, so depending on the individual. If you are going to carry it for that long I advise you to wash it while its installed, or use cotton wool to clean it with leave-in conditioners. You can also use Spirit to clean it up with wool but make sure to oil it after five minutes of the application.

The Lenght Duration For Simple Protective Hair Styles.

For buns or simple protective styles, you should wash daily or weekly depending on what works for you. Undo the style before you sleep and redo the next day if it is easy to make. After you wash your hair make sure it is dry before you style. Most protective styles require adding extra hair to your head. To ensure it is fully dry, use a blow dryer or equivalent to dry it. Damp hair can cause mildew and fungus, you don't want that.

If you feel your hair has become itchy or dry you can use a scalp treatment like Mizani Scalp Care Calming Lotion. It is a Leave-in treatment, its ingredients contain aloe vera, avocado oil, and eucalyptus it soothes, cools, and nourishes the scalp.
